John P. Melancon
AIA, NCARB, LEED BD+C & O+M
John Melancon is the Principal Architect of Design Xodus that was founded in January of 2020. John moved to Thailand with his parents and at an early age grew an appreciation for different cultures, environments, and ways of experiencing the built world. Traveling throughout Southeast Asia exposed John to a wide range of architecture, communities, and ideas, shaping his perspective on design and the relationship between people and their surroundings. After returning to the United States, John pursued his passion for architecture, earning both a Bachelor of Architecture and Master of Architecture from Louisiana Tech before beginning his professional career where he graduated with the Director's List Award in the School of Architecture.
Upon graduating he began his professional career for a local Baton Rouge firm gaining extensive experience in award-winning higher education projects and dining work. John completed his time there as studio Leader. Moving on from there John went to work for two other firms gaining experience in Healthcare, National Brands, Foodservice Prototypes, Liturgical, K-12, Military, Hurricane Safe Rooms, and disaster recovery projects. From his vast experience and drive toward entrepreneurship he felt a natural draw to begin his own practice which led to opening Design Xodus.
Today, John's approach to architecture is rooted in collaboration, curiosity, and a strong understanding of how design can create value for both clients and the communities they serve. He enjoys building relationships, understanding the challenges behind a project, and using architecture to open clients' eyes to possibilities they may not have initially considered.
With experience ranging from small-scale renovations to large institutional or industrial projects. John brings together vast architectural knowledge, project management, technical expertise, and a mindset to help move projects from ideas to successful destinations.
